Sunrise in the Bush
Pretoriuskop Dam, South Africa
African bush, there is nothing like it in the world. Out on one of the safaris with Africa Undiscovered in the Kruger National Park, in Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces, South Africa.
We found ourselves camped out on the side of the Petoriuskop Dam, back in those days this dam was not open to the public and as such we were the only people there. Waking up early in the morning I walked down to the dam, a calm morning with with mist rising of the dam in the fresh morning air.
I got to the edge of the dam just at the right time and setup my camera to take a photograph of the sun rising over the dam and burning through the mist. This taken on an old Yashica FX7 35mm camera with an 18-75mm zoom lens. I off hand cannot remember the settings that I used while taking the photograph. But shot the photo and a couple of weeks later when getting back to civilization developed the film in my home dark room.
During the whole development process I was anxious to see what results I had from the photos that I had taken, needles to say pleasantly surprised at the end result.
Back then you did not have the instant gratitude that you have today with DSLR cameras and being able to take an photo with instant results, however this has its down side as well. Today I feel photographers have not gained the same knowledge and experience, this sacrificed for the reliance on digital assistance.
